Movie/DVD Reviews
Posted by dre222 on June 29, 2007
So I’m a little behind on reviews, but at least I’m not taking a break like some other bloggers we know (TD). Of course said blogger has definitely earned a respite. Anyway, here’s what’s been viewed at Casa Dre and local theaters.
Knocked Up

This movie is not as funny as The 40-Year-Old Virgin no matter how much they hyped it. It has it’s moments as most romantic comedies do, and there are some great scenes between Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd, but overall I was fairly underwhelmed by this movie. I believe the fault for this lies with the hype. Note to marketing masters at Universal don’t promise your consumers a product you can’t deliver. Without the hype, it may have been an extremely funny movie.

Ghost Rider

Not as bad as it originally looked or seemed destined to be. While they go a little fast on the Devil’s part and who his usurper was (this part confused the hell out of me through the entirety of the movie having not read the comic and knowing that both names I heard usually refer to Satan), perhaps the biggest stretch of the imagination was buying that Nick Cage was young enough for the part. In fact, when they showed him topless, I was convinced they CGI’ed his body. Overall, not bad for mindless entertainment.

Breach

Eye candy Ryan Phillippe. Enough said.

Blood Diamond

Leo does a decent South African accent, but not good enough to be convincing throughout. Aside from that, the pace of the movie was okay and the plot was decent. The end didn’t have enough of a climax building toward it and I hate to say it felt fairly Shyamalan‘ed (I am coining this term henceforth to mean “forced twist you expected all along”. Anyone using this term owes me some cold hard cash). Overall, it was well worth the rent just for the body count.
